You have no idea—the moment I saw the Golden Dragon Parade on the Yulong River, I was so stunned I literally couldn’t speak.

The shimmering water, the glowing dragon lanterns, and those karst mountains as the backdrop? It looked straight out of a fantasy martial arts movie. Like, unreal.

But here’s the thing—this isn’t an everyday thing. It’s more of a special event. You’ll usually see it during certain festivals, like the Dragon Boat Festival o Mid-Autumn Festival, or sometimes in specific months like fall, or on certain weekends. Definitely not every night. And the parade usually starts around 6:00 PM.

Golden Dragon Parade – Highlights

  • The dragon lantern boat is over 100 meters long, winding its way across the river. The light from its “scales” reflects on the water—it’s pure magic.

  • With the karst mountains in the background at night, the whole scene feels like something out of a dream. Seriously, the vibe is unmatched.

  • And on top of that, there are fireworks during the parade. The moment they burst open, the entire Yulong River just lights up.

So, where’s the best place to watch?

1. On Yulong Bridge itself
This is where I watched it. It’s the official paid viewing spot, and honestly? The view is amazing. You get the full experience—especially the moment the dragon boat passes right under the bridge. That’s the money shot.
But heads up: there are only 80 seats each time. You really should book in advance. They’ll clear the bridge and close it off when it starts, so only people with tickets can stay.

2. Around Yulong Bridge
You can also go to the rooftops of nearby buildings—like local homes, restaurants, or convenience stores on the north side of the bridge. Those spots usually charge around 30 to 40 yuan. If you can’t get the official ticket, this is actually a pretty good backup.

3. Along the riverbanks
These are free. You can get up close—great for taking photos of the dragon’s head or cool silhouette shots. But you’ll only get to see it for a few minutes as it passes by.

You can book ahead on official platforms like “Visit Yangshuo” (You Yangshuo). Way better than waiting in line.

  • The viewing spot on Yulong Bridge is about 108 yuan per person.

  • If you want to actually ride a bamboo raft, those tickets range from a few hundred to over a thousand yuan—depending on your budget and what kind of experience you’re after.
